Expiration of certificates allows candidates to stay updated with the latest technology, to re validate your exam it is not necessary to retake the same, if you go to a higher level the lower level is automatically re validated for 3 years, pay attention to move from one level to another required examination must be still valid i.e. that to pass the CCNA Security certification for example You must have previously succeeded the normal CCNA certification and must still be valid (3 years validity)
